We’ve migrated dozens of Tampa mid-market businesses off Elementor in the last 2 years. The pattern is consistent: client started on a template + Elementor Pro, added 4-6 Elementor add-on packs over time, ended up with 17-22 plugins, LCP of 3.4-4.8s, and a Lighthouse Performance score of 25-45. The redesign typically lands at 4-6 plugins, LCP of 1.1-1.6s, and Lighthouse 85-95.

Content extraction is the bottleneck. Elementor stores page content as JSON in the database, with widget settings interleaved. We use a one-off extraction script that pulls clean content (headings, paragraphs, lists, images) into Gutenberg blocks. Most pages extract cleanly; some need manual review.

What changes for your editing experience: Elementor’s drag-and-drop widget editor goes away. The new editor is WordPress Full Site Editing (FSE) with native blocks. The relearning curve is real but manageable — if your team is comfortable in Google Docs, FSE is similar.

The Elementor decommission happens 1-2 weeks post-launch. We don’t uninstall on Day 1 in case rollback is needed. After the post-launch monitoring window passes cleanly, Elementor uninstalls and the database cleanup script removes orphan postmeta.

We don’t recommend it. Mixed-platform sites have inconsistent performance and double the maintenance burden. Migrate all-in for the cleanest result.
