Should I Use Elementor or FSE?

14 days kickoff → live $3K–$15K+ scope-tiered WCAG 2.1 AA baseline

The short answer

FSE for any new build in 2026. Elementor only if you have an existing Elementor site under 15 pages that’s working fine and you don’t want to migrate. For mid-market B2B with 25+ pages, FSE wins on performance, plugin count, maintenance, and long-term portability.

№ 01The longer answer

Elementor was an excellent answer in 2018-2022 when WordPress had no native page-building tools. WordPress 5.9 (January 2022) shipped FSE, and by late 2023 FSE was production-ready. The reason to start a new project on Elementor today is mostly inertia, not architecture.

The performance gap is real. Elementor adds 800KB-1.4MB of JavaScript per pageview because it ships a layout engine to the browser. FSE produces near-final HTML and ships nothing extra. On the same content, FSE sites typically run 1.1-1.6s LCP while Elementor sites run 3.0-4.5s. That gap shows up in CWV, which shows up in Google rankings.

Plugin count is the other gap. A typical Elementor mid-market site runs 17-22 plugins (Elementor Pro + Crocoblock + 5-7 add-on packs + the usual suspects). An FSE site runs 4-6. Maintenance overhead and security attack surface both scale with plugin count.

The Elementor case that still makes sense: existing 8-15 page site that works fine, owner who’s comfortable with the editor, no plans to grow past 20 pages, traffic low enough that CWV doesn’t matter for rankings. Migrating a working small site ‘just because’ is unnecessary.

№ 02Can I use both?

Technically yes — some pages built in Elementor, others in FSE. We don’t recommend it. The dual-system overhead and inconsistent editing experience aren’t worth the flexibility.

№ 03What about Bricks or Oxygen?

Bricks is well-engineered (lighter than Elementor) but still a page builder. For new builds, FSE is the cleaner answer. Oxygen is more developer-targeted and a viable alternative for code-comfortable teams.

№ 04Is the FSE editor as easy as Elementor?

Not quite. Elementor’s drag-anywhere model is more intuitive. FSE’s block model is more abstract. We close the gap with pre-built block patterns — clients pick a pattern and edit content rather than designing from scratch.
