Answer · Website Redesign
Can You Redesign While Keeping My Existing Domain?
The short answer
Yes — that’s the default. The domain stays in your name; we update DNS during launch to point at the new hosting. Domain authority, backlinks, brand recognition, email all preserved. Domain changes are separate (and rarely recommended).
№ 01The longer answer
Domain preservation is the default for 95%+ of our redesigns. Your domain (yoursite.com) stays registered with your registrar, in your name. At launch, we update the DNS records to point at the new hosting (Kinsta, Cloudways, or whoever you’re hosting with). The domain itself doesn’t change.
Why this matters: your domain has accumulated authority over years. Backlinks, brand recognition, search ranking history, email continuity, customer bookmark behavior — all tied to the domain. Changing domains during a redesign throws all of that away. Don’t do it unless there’s a strategic reason.
Email continuity: if your email is on yoursite.com (you@yoursite.com), it survives the redesign. The MX records stay pointed at your email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc). The website DNS change doesn’t affect email DNS.
When domain changes ARE justified: rebrand to a new company name, acquiring a better .com that you previously couldn’t get, consolidating multiple domains into one. Each is its own project — the domain change is treated as a migration on top of the redesign, with additional 301 mapping at the domain level.
№ 02What if I’m changing my company name?
Domain change is then justified. We handle both: the redesign + the domain migration. Pricing adds ~$1-2K to the redesign tier for the cross-domain 301 mapping and authority preservation work.
№ 03Will my email stop working during launch?
No. Email DNS is separate from website DNS. We don’t touch the MX records during a redesign launch.
№ 04What if I have multiple domains pointing to the same site?
We’ll consolidate during the redesign. Each secondary domain 301s to the primary. Reduces brand confusion and concentrates authority.
