Where Should I Put My CTA on the Page?
The short answer
Above the fold (primary), then every 800-1200 pixels down the page. On long pages, expect 4-6 CTA placements minimum. On mobile, add a sticky-footer CTA bar. Single-CTA pages underperform multi-CTA pages by 15-40% on long-form B2B pages.
№ 01The longer answer
Buyers decide at different scroll depths. A visitor who decides to convert at the proof section (60% down) shouldn’t have to scroll back to the hero to find the CTA. Distribute CTAs every 800-1200px on long pages.
Standard placement on a 4000px service page: hero (above the fold), end of problem section (~1200px), after the proof section (~2000px), after the pricing section (~3000px), and at the page bottom (~3800px). Five CTAs total, usually variations of the same offer.
Mobile is different. Reachable thumb zone is the bottom 60% of the screen. Header CTAs require reaching up; sticky-footer CTAs stay in the thumb zone. Mobile sticky CTAs lift conversion 12-22% on local-service and B2B inquiry pages.
Above the fold is necessary but not sufficient. A study by Nielsen Norman group found 50%+ of users do scroll past the fold — but only if there’s visual signal indicating more content. Don’t put your only CTA above the fold and expect everyone to find it.
№ 02Should the CTA be sticky on desktop?
Usually no — desktop sticky CTAs (floating sidebars) feel intrusive. Sticky CTAs are a mobile pattern. On desktop, distribute multiple CTAs through scroll instead.
№ 03Can I have too many CTAs?
Yes — if every section ends with a CTA, the page reads as pushy. Sweet spot: one CTA every 800-1200px. Don’t put a CTA at the end of every paragraph.
№ 04Where does the form go — same as the CTA?
On long landing pages, the form usually lives at the bottom (after all proof has been delivered). CTAs above the form should scroll-jump to it. On short pages, the form can be above the fold — but only on warm-traffic landing pages where buyers don’t need proof first.
