What’s the Best WordPress SEO Plugin?
The short answer
Rank Math (free + Pro $79/yr) is our default. Yoast SEO (free + Premium $99/yr) is the established alternative. Both work well. Rank Math has cleaner UI, better schema implementation, faster admin. Yoast has larger user base and longer track record. Pick one, configure it well, ignore All-in-One SEO.
№ 01The longer answer
Rank Math’s advantages: cleaner admin UI, more schema markup types out of the box (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, HowTo, Recipe, Product all included in free), faster page-load impact (lighter footprint), 404 monitor and redirect manager built into free tier (Yoast charges for Premium for redirects), Schema validation built in.
Yoast’s advantages: longer track record, larger user community, more third-party integrations (CRMs and analytics tools sometimes integrate with Yoast specifically), readability and SEO analysis tools more mature.
Both plugins handle the core SEO tasks well: meta titles/descriptions, XML sitemaps, schema markup, breadcrumbs, canonical URLs, social meta (Open Graph and Twitter Cards), basic redirects (Pro tiers). Either is a credible choice.
What we don’t use: All-in-One SEO Pack — third-place option, no advantage over Rank Math or Yoast. SEOPress — underdeveloped compared to the top two. The Events Calendar SEO — only relevant if you’re running The Events Calendar. Use Rank Math or Yoast, not bundled SEO from theme plugins.
№ 02Do I need the Pro version?
For mid-market B2B with serious SEO ambitions: yes. Rank Math Pro ($79/yr) unlocks WooCommerce SEO, advanced schema, video sitemap, multiple keyword tracking. Yoast Premium ($99/yr) unlocks redirects, multiple keyphrases, internal linking suggestions, premium support.
№ 03Can I switch from Yoast to Rank Math?
Yes. Rank Math has a built-in importer that migrates Yoast settings, meta titles/descriptions, focus keywords, and redirects in one click. Roughly 80% of the migration is automatic; the rest is config review.
№ 04What about the WordPress.com built-in SEO?
WordPress.com has basic SEO baked in. If you’re on Business plan or higher, install Rank Math or Yoast for serious SEO. The built-in features are minimal.
